Being attracted by an advertisement in a daily news paper, Capt. ASM Fatehlohani joined the Marine Academy, Chittagong in the year 1966 as a 5thBatch cadet. Before joining Capt. ASM Fatehlohani had no idea about sea-carrier. On successful completion of Academy education and training in 1968, Capt. Lohani started sea-life on board a Pakistani ocean-going vessel. During the Liberation War showing non co-operation he deserted Pakistani ship m.v. Kaptai at Hongkong with a few of his colleagues.

After being repatriated to Bangladesh Capt. Lohani deeply thought about participating in the development of our national shipping. Therefore, decided to start my carrier with the newly formed Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (B.S.C.). He served on board various BSC’s ocean-going vessels in different capacity till 1982. During this time he obtained my 2nd Mate (F.G.) Certifiacte from Bombay, Chief Mate (F.G) and Master (F.G) Certificate from U.K. Thereafter he gladly accepted an invitation to join in the BSC office job.

Capt. Lohani was nominated as a candidate for the 1st Batch of World Maritime University (WMU), Malmo, Sweeden to take a M.Sc. course in the field of Maritime Education and Training (Nautical). After successful completion of M.Sc. from WMU, he was entrusted with the job of providing education and training to sea-going personnel. Capt. Lohani joined Marine Academy, Chittagong on deputation as Head of the Nautical Department from 1985 to 1994.

To develop the seaman training programme specially of the ratting group the Government required his expertise and he was transferred to Seamen Training Center as Principal, where he served for four years i.e. till 1998.

Thereafter he returned back to Bangladesh Shipping Corporation office and served in various capacity in BSC – Deputy General Manager, General Manager and Technical Director. Finally he retired from BSC’s service in 2006.

After his retirement the well reputed Manning Agent m/s Haque and Sons invited him to join their sea-farer Training Institute “Bangladesh Maritime Training Institute” (BMTI). With great honor he joined BMTI, initially as an Advisor and thereafter the company permanently absorbed me as Vice-Principal. Till to-day he is here and imparting his knowledge in the best possible way. He has been promoted to the rank of Principal of Bangladesh Maritime Training Institude from 01 January 2012.
