MOHAMMAD ABDUL MAJID

After passing Intermediate Science (now HSC) in 1964 from Notre Dame College. Dhaka, completed 2 years Marine Engineering course in Marine Academy, Chittagong and 1 years workshop training at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, Karachi, Pakistan.

On completion of training joined Pakistan National Shipping Corporation 5thEngineer in 1969. During the liberation war defected from ship at Hong Kong and returned to Bangladesh. In 1972 took delivery of the first Bangladesh merchant ship “MV Banglar Doot” from India. Served on board various Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) ships at different capacity up to the rank of Chief Engineer until 1980. During this period attended courses at South Shields Marine Engineering College, UK and qualified Class II and Class I Marine Engineering Certificate of Competency examination under Department of Trade, Government of UK.

From 1980 to 1984 served BSC as Deputy Engineering Superintendent and thereafter as Technical Manager for Europe based in London until 1986. During this period represented Bangladesh government in all IMO meetings /seminars.

Resigned from BSC and joined Bangladesh Oxygen limited (BOC) as Engineering Manager in 1987. BOC is a multinational company with HO in London. The company is the largest manufacturer of various industrial and medical gases along with welding electrodes in the country. Served with BOC also as Operations Manger and Regional Manager until retirement as a General Manager at the end of 2006. Continued to work with BOC from 2008 as a consultant for construction and commissioning of two manufacturing unit projects until 2010.

Joined IMA as an Engineering Instructor in 2012.
